Kinship Caregivers, Youth Find Community at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Orange

 

Before Orange was a city, St. John’s Lutheran Church ministered to and nurtured the spiritual lives of the area’s settlers. Over 130 years later, the church remains the cornerstone of faith to the community.

 

As a Faith in Motion partner, a collaborative between the County of Orange Social Services Agency (SSA) and Orange County’s faith community, the church serves hundreds of children and families involved in the Orange County foster care system through family events and programs. SSA is grateful for the many programs developed to meet concrete needs, promote healing and provide opportunities for kinship caregivers to connect casually with one another.

 

During the pandemic, St. John’s programs continued through virtual and drive-thru platforms. With COVID-19 restrictions lifting a bit, the church plans to reopen some of the in-person programs this month. Current activities include:
