Domestic Violence Services Unit Offers Hope to Victims
Domestic violence victims and their families experience severe trauma and may need a variety of resources ranging from emergency shelter to financial assistance to legal services. The County of Orange Social Services Agency’s Domestic Abuse Services Unit (DASU) is comprised of social workers who provide critical support and services designed to help victims overcome barriers to self-sufficiency. Services include:
- Assessment/Evaluation
- Counseling
- Case Management & Planning
- Referrals
- Child Care
- Housing & Food Assistance
- Transportation
- Access to Domestic Violence Shelters
- In-Home Parenting Services
- Access to Legal Representation & Restraining Order Assistance

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic violence is a serious issue that affects millions of Americans regardless of gender, age, race, social standing, or economic level. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence defines it as the “willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another.” Victims of domestic violence typically feel isolated and alone. The statistics below and DASU resources are intended to equip families and friends to better support victims; letting them know there are alternatives to staying in an abusive relationship.
