Family-Friendly Activities to Celebrate Juneteenth

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day and Emancipation Day, was declared a federal holiday on June 17, 2021. It is observed on June 19 and commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Below are ways families can learn about the significance of this date in American history.

Visit a Museum
A great way to learn about the history and importance of Juneteenth is to visit, in person or virtually, an exhibit or museum. Children learn best through sensory experiences. Explore the many textures and colors of paintings, sculptures, dioramas, and enjoy the sounds of musical compositions.
